Additional Zika virus funding request stalled

Posted

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Obama administration says nearly $600 million left over from the successful fight against Ebola will be used to take on the growing threat from the Zika virus.

It's been linked to severe birth defects and has been spreading northward across the Americas. President Barack Obama has asked for about $1.9 billion in emergency money to fight Zika but the request has stalled in the GOP-controlled Congress.

To date there have been 82 zika cases in Florida, with 3 in Lee County and 1 in Collier County.
