App takes downtown visitors off the beaten path

Posted

A local entrepreneur launched an app geared at getting people to visit businesses that aren't on 1st Street in Downtown Ft. Myers.

Daivd Anderson developed Fort Myers River District app shortly after moving to Ft. Myers 2 years ago and opening Soniyoga on Jackson Street.

"Everybody finds the wonderful places that are on 1st street, and there are some great places there, but what they don't find, what I didn't find, are the fun little places that aren't on 1st street."

Anderson says he's discovered several new restaurants around town just by using the app, which is compatible with Android and I-phones.

"All the restaurants, all the shops, all the services and all the places you like to go play, like when you get your hair done or nails done, or to get a tattoo," adds Anderson.

The app also has maps pinpointing where businesses are located, coupons, and a list of events happening in downtown.

"I think that downtown is really growing, we're no longer a one street little town.  The more we can show people some of the side streets and businesses that are opening up, the better," said Karen Allegretti, owner of Market Earth.

Businesses that want to be listed on the app can do so for free by logging onto MyRiverDistrict.com.  There is a fee for enhanced level listings.
