Bicyclist critically injured on Tamiami Trail in Naples

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A Naples man is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Tamiami Trail Tuesday night.

It happened just west of the intersection with St. Andrews Boulevard at around 10:30 last night in Collier County.

Florida Highway Patrol says the car and the bicyclist were both traveling east on Tamiami Trail when the man riding the bicycle, 35-year-old Wayne Gray, crossed in front of the car, and the driver hit him.

They say the bicyclist did not have any lights, was wearing dark clothing, and alcohol may have been a factor when he swerved.

He was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Charges are pending at this time.
