BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. -- Humberto Lopez of Bonita Springs told Fox 4 that his 16-year-old daughter was in her bedroom on Streetsboro Lane a little after 7:00 a.m., when she came face-to-face with a masked intruder who threatened her with a knife. But rather than try to run or hide, she fought.

"When she started fighting with him, she (took) the knife from his hand," Lopez said.

He said that as soon as she got the knife away, she shut him inside the room and ran outside to the driveway to alert his wife. They got a neighbor to come over and check out the room, but the intruder was gone.

"I don't know, maybe people are watching us when we're leaving the house," said Lopez, who had already left for work at the time of the incident.

Crime scene technicians from the Lee County Sheriff's Office arrived later to collect evidence, while deputies searched the surrounding area for a suspect.

Lopez said his daughter told him the intruder was wearing a mask, so she never saw his face. He said she was scared and shaken up, but not hurt.

"I don't know how she did that," he said. "But it's something incredible, you know?"

A suspect description has not been released.
