Cape Coral child hit by car in parking lot

CAPE CORAL, Fla -- A Cape Coral child critically hurt after he was pinned down by a car in a gas station parking lot.

"The woman backing out didn't see him I guess. She backed out a little bit across the parking spot and ran him over," said Jennifer, a Cape Coral resident. She saw it all go down but was too upset to go on camera.

"They called 9-1-1. They came out. They took care of everything sorry (c Telling me seeing it happen to the 9 year old boy made her think of her children

"Heard the woman in the parking lot screaming!  That's my son you ran over."
Cape Coral police want you to be aware of more kids at convenience stores with the school year coming to a close.

"They maybe coming in and out of stores and in and out of these tighter parking lots and some of the smaller shopping areas. So drivers should really be paying more attention," said Sgt. Coston.

For Jennifer, she just wants people to slow down and pay attention.

"Put your cell phone down. Put your make up down if that's what it is. Put, put your eyes on the road around you. You wouldn't Want it to happen to anybody. And adult, a kid. It's not worth it," said Jennifer.

The boy was rushed to the hospital. Police aren't saying what condition he is in.
