Cape Police investigating fatal Del Prado crash

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police are investigating a fatal crash that shut down part of Del Prado Boulevard for several hours Sunday morning. 

Around 9:30AM, Cape Coral Police responded to a 2-vehicle crash in the 600 block of Del Prado Boulevard North. 

Investigation revealed that a 1998 white Dodge Caravan that was traveling northbound on Del Prado Boulevard ran a red light at NE 6th Street, striking a 1999 grey Nissan Sentra that was making a left turn at the intersection. The drivers of both vehicles sustained injuries in this crash and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

The driver of the 1999 Nissan Sentra, 93-year-old Harry Carroll Wilson of Cape Coral, later died at the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. 

Cape Coral Police Department Patrol, Major Crash Investigator, Forensics, and Victim Advocates responded to the scene. The roadway was closed through 1:00 PM during the investigation. The crash is not alcohol/drug related. The investigation is ongoing.  

This is the 4th traffic fatality in Cape Coral this year.
