CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- An 19-year-old Cape Coral man is behind bars, charged with stealing his neighbor's car and crashing it into his own home.

"You never expect someone to take your vehicle and take it for a joy ride," said Sergio Soto.

Soto lives down the street from where a bizarre crash happened early Monday morning.

19-year-old Dexter Cheal is charged with stealing a truck from a home he was house sitting and plowing it into his own house next door on Southeast 32nd Terrace.

Cheal had cuts to his face.  No one else was hurt in the incident.

Soto says he saw several police cars, but didn't know what happened until we told him.  "This is a quiet neighborhood.  Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves," said Soto.

Neighors living across from the home say they heard a loud bang, the impact shearing off a palm frond in the front yard.

According to the report, Cheal told officers he was in his home and his friends took the truck and crashed it into his home.

The incident is making Soto think about who he would want watching his home.  "You would never let anyone watch your house and if it's a person of trust, you would think they would do what they are supposed to be doing."

A woman who drove up to Cheal's house while we were there told us she was "embarrassed" about what happened, but did not want to talk about it and asked us to leave.
