LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Cape Coral man is accused of driving drunk and firing a gun into the air while behind the wheel.

The Cape Coral Police Department says it received a call from a witness just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday who saw a man point a gun out of a moving vehicle and shoot a round into the air near Cape Coral Parkway and Chiquita Boulevard.

Officers located the driver and pulled him over in the 2200 block of SW 7th Place after observing his Jeep driving slowly and swerving out of its lane.  Christopher Benetatos of Cape Coral was behind the wheel and officers removed him and a passenger from the vehicle without incident.

Officers said Benetatos appeared to be intoxicated.

Officers located a loaded rifle, a loaded Glock 22, and a Ruger inside the vehicle.  All three guns were taken into evidence.

Forensics later determined through a hand swab that Benetatos had gun powder on his fingers.  He was taken into custody on charges of DUI, discharging a firearm from a vehicle in public, and carrying a concealed firearm.
