Cape Coral Police have seen a spike in car burglaries and thefts. During the month of November, the agency has seen 79.

Lisa Carr said she's spent the last two days driving around southwest Florida, searching for her dark brown-grey Ford F150. It was stolen out of her friend's driveway Saturday over night off Viscaya Parkway in southeast Cape Coral.

"Our truck was gone. Only one stolen that night," Carr said.

Multiple vehicles in the same neighborhood were broken into the same night Carr's truck was stolen. Frank Connors' truck was one of them.

"Just rifled through. Stuff is missing: my tablet, toll money, a work knife. It was upsetting, especially close to the holidays," he said.

The common thread between the burglaries and thefts: unlocked car doors.

"I was told to leave it unlocked so they don't break a window, in case there is ever somebody looking to steal stuff," Connors said.

"They're going to move on if your car is locked," Cpl. Phil Mullen of Cape Coral Police said. "They're not going to break the window. Our citizens call if they hear something like that, and the guys get caught."

Carr said if she gets her truck back, she'll be locking it at all times.

Her dark brown-grey 2006 Ford F150 has a Florida tag number N867FW, and a large wooden pallet in the back that takes up the entire back end.

If you have any information on any of these cases, you're asked to call Cape Coral Police at (239) 574-3223.
