TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Public universities in Florida could reopen their campuses as soon as fall, according to the state's university system.
The State University System Task Force says it has been working for weeks to put together a plan to reopen university campuses in Fall 2020.
The State University System's chancellor, Marshall Criser III, has been assigned to develop the plans to present to the Board of Governors at a public meeting on May 28. After that, the public universities will present their versions of the reopening plans at a board meeting on June 23.
“The task force is focusing on developing guidelines that will prioritize the health and well-being of students, faculty, staff, vendors, and visitors as our institutions continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic,” said State University System Board of Governors’ chair Syd Kitson in a press release. “Our measured and thoughtful approach will be informed by science and medical professionals, and we are working hard to develop sound guidelines that enhance campus safety, as well as continue to meet the Board’s rigorous academic performance and student success goals.”
Public universities across Florida have remained closed for months due to the coronavirus pandemic. University students have all had to take distance learning to finish up their spring semesters.
