Florida has 100,217 positive cases of coronavirus as of Monday morning.
While cases have been rising by the thousands, the highest number of deaths in a single day since June 1 is 41.
Leading the state in the number of cases is Miami-Dade County, which has 26,239 cases as of Monday, with 884 deaths in the county alone.
Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez has spoken about the increase in cases and said that businesses that are seen not complying with safety measures regarding face coverings and social distancing will be shut down.
Following the New Normal guidelines is more important than ever if we want to stop COVID-19 cases from growing in Miami-Dade. Three restaurants have already been shut down due to violations. The three restaurants were Astra in Wynwood, Swan in the Design District and El Secreto Bar & Grill in Little Havana.
The owners of non-compliant businesses may face a $500 fine and up to 180 days in jail. In order to reopen, businesses that have been closed due to noncompliance must take 24 hours to review the New Normal Guidelines and also take necessary measures to meet these requirements.
Shutdown businesses must also submit an affidavit showing they have completed the necessary steps to reopen.
“The safety and welfare of all the residents of Miami-Dade County is paramount during this pandemic,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “There will be zero tolerance for establishments that do not follow the rules to protect our community from the spread of COVID-19.”
