LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A major crash was causing big traffic issues on State Road 82 in Lehigh Acres Friday morning.

The roadway has since reopened after a fiery crash shut the road down for several hours.

Florida Highway Patrol says a crash happened around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection with Parkdale Boulevard.

According to FHP, the driver of a car on Parkdale Boulevard failed to stop for the stop sign at S.R. 82, and pulled out into the eastbound lanes, where it was hit by an SUV.

After the collision, the SUV swerved off the road and hit a tree, and both occupants of the car got out to check on the SUV's driver.

That's when Troopers say an eastbound semi truck hit the car, causing then both to catch fire. Thankfully the car was empty at the time.  The driver of the truck was able to safely escape without injury.

The driver of the SUV suffered a minor injury and was transported to Lehigh Regional Hospital for treatment.

The car's driver was cited for failure to yield right of way.
