Crime strikes Fort Myers Beach area

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. - Members of the Fort Myers Beach community unnerved and on edge after brazen burglars target several homes and vehicles within hours of each other. Lee County deputies say the crooks recently set their sites on property within several blocks of Estero Blvd. and Estrellita Dr.

Sheriff's deputies responded to 3 reports of stolen vehicles Tuesday - one each from Smuggler's Cove Condominium, Snook Bight Yacht Club and Estrellita Dr.

The vehicles from Smuggler's Cove and Estrellita were later found parked a short distance from where their owners had left them.

It's believed that the Smugglers Cove vehicle was stolen using a hidden spare key.

The owner of a black Volkwagen Jetta stolen from Snook Bight Yacht Club says she left the car locked under a carport, and just happened to be out walking her dog around 5am Tuesday when she saw a man in a dark hoodie and baseball cap get in it and drive away.

Several car burglaries were also reported up ad down Estero Blvd, after the owners noticed valuables were missing from their vehicles.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating. If you saw anything suspicious Tuesday morning, or know anything about these crimes, you can call crime stoppers at 1-800-780-tips.
