CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The Cape Coral Police Department officially has a new top officer.
City council approved the contract for interim chief Dave Newlan, making him the city's chief of police on a permanent basis.
Chief Newlan, a 25-year-veteran, replaces former chief Bart Connelly, who retired in May.
The city manager says Newlan's performance had been exceptional since taking over the department. Newland will earn $136,000 a year, and will officially start his new position Tuesday.
