CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A jet skier was struck by lightning Sunday, and can thank two deputies for saving his life.

Deputies James Mills (pictured at left) and Seth Pelfry (at right) responded to the 1500 block of Gulf Boulevard in Englewood Suday evening in response to a call about a boating accident.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, the deputies then observed a 22 year old male floating face down in the water. It was later determined that this male was struck by lightning while on a jet ski.

Deputy Mills removed his duty belt and dove into the gulf water and swam 60-80 yards and dragged the male to a dock where Deputy Pelfry assisted in lifting the male onto a floating dock.

The male had no pulse, was not breathing and CPR was initiated until EMS personnel arrived. The male was transported to a medical facility and is alive today thanks to the courage of those two Deputies.
