Undercover deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office raided the Lotus smoke shop Thursday afternoon.

Deputies emerged with box loads of items from the store located at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and South Cleveland Avenue.

"I was just returning back from the bank where I saw the action going down, they all flooded the area there," said Alex Bonham, who manages the Jersey Mike's sandwich shop next door.

According to it's website, Lotus sells rolling accessories, pipe tobacco and marijuana oil.

38-year-old Adnan Virani's name came up on Lotus's Facebook page.  Lee County jail records show Virani was charged with selling synthetic drugs.

Bonham says the staff at Lotus would visit Jersey Mike's frequently, enjoying the restaurant's subs and cookies.

"They were quite the visitors, they would come in three to four times a day, 6 days, 7 days out of the week."

Bonham says Lotus has been open for about a year and a half, they have another location in Naples.

"They were nice people, you wouldn't suspect anything from this end, when we heard about it, we were completely surprised."

Fox 4 is waiting to hear back from the Lee County Sheriff's Office to find out exactly what was seized from the store.
