Deputies: Three suspected in Lee County murder were headed to Colorado

Posted

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Authorities now say the three people charged in the murder of a Buckingham man were trying to leave the state and head to Colorado, using the victim's stolen car and credit card.

Last Friday, Ted Lee's body was found wrapped in carpet with trauma behind a dumpster in a church parking lot in Manatee County -- dozens of miles from his home.

Since then, three arrests have been made.  18-year-old Jonathan Ruffini and 23-year-old Tyson Hunter are both charged with second-degree murder, grand theft auto, and credit card fraud. Meanwhile,  16-year-old Lavaya May, who reportedly lived with Lee for years, is charged with accessory after the fact.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the only connection between Ted Lee and the two men was Lavaya May.

The trio was arrested in Kansas, three days after Lee was reported missing from his home on Gray Twig Lane.

There's still no word when the three suspects will be brought back in Southwest Florida to face charges.
