Driver who hit and killed teen at bus stop gets fine, license suspended

Posted

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Cape Coral man who was charged in a bus stop crash that killed a Fort Myers teen back in June has pleaded no contest in court.

Troopers say 16-year-old Cameron Mayhew was trying to cross Pine Ridge Road on June 1st to get to his bus when 23-year-old Zackery Treinin ignored the bus stop sign and hit Mayhew.

Sadly, the Fort Myers High School teen died from his injuries at the hospital.

As part of the plea deal Thursday, Treinen's license will be suspended for six months and he must pay a $1,000 fine.

Treinen was never actually arrested in the crash, he was only cited.
