CAPE CORAL, Fla -- When it comes to the race for Congressional District 19, Byron Donalds secured the Republican nomination and will go on to face Democrat Dr. Cindy Banyai in November.
If Donalds wins, he will go into Congress as the only African American GOP representative in the House.
Following Tuesday’s victory, Donalds shared the following message during his victory speech and on Twitter:
Today we proved the Republican Party is for everyone––even a poor black kid who grew up in Brooklyn.

Donalds beat Cape Coral native Dane Eagle, after winning with 22.6% of votes.
