TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — As Washington, D.C. erupts in chaos from those protesting the presidential election results, protesters unable to make it to D.C. are gathering in Tallahassee.

Hundreds can be seen on the south steps and outside the Capitol grounds Wednesday.

In lieu of the violence seen in D.C., Governor Ron DeSantis issued the following statement:

“Violence or rioting of any kind is unacceptable and the perpetrators must face the full weight of the law. The Capitol Police do an admirable job and I thank them for their hard work.”

Tallahassee's mayor, John Dailey issued the following tweet in response to the protests at the U.S. Capitol:

“I am horrified at what we’re seeing at the U.S. Capitol today. This is an attack on our democracy. In this country we respect the outcomes of our free & fair elections and honor the peaceful transfer of power.
President Trump must immediately call on his supporters to stand down and respect the results of the election.”

Florida House Speaker Chris Sprowls issued the following statement regarding violent mobs storming the U.S. Capitol building:

“In a democracy, rioting, violence and lawlessness are repugnant and unacceptable. This isn’t a peaceful protest. It’s a tragic, cowardly and un-American spectacle.”

This is a developing story.
