FDLE continue investigating Sanibel officer involved shooting

SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement continue investigating the home of a man who allegedly shot a police officer, Tuesday.

FDLE was seen going into the house of Jon Hay, 49, where he lived with his parents. Nearby, a neighbor told Fox 4 her account of the night. She was driving home when police  stopped her and drew their weapons as they searched for the suspect. They told her to put her hands up. "There were many policemen, Sanibel, Lee County, lights blaring," said Mary Laser. "They were right there looking at me with the gun and it was scary because should anybody even flinch, I could be shot."

Laser told Fox 4 that she's glad officers responded the way they did. "Even though they scared the pants off me, I'm really glad they caught him so fast," she said.

Meanwhile, the community still wonders who Jon Hay is. "He just seemed nice as I'd walk by." said one neighbor, as we asked if anything about Hay seemed off. "No, nothing ever seemed off."

Hay remains in jail with a 2 million dollar bond. However, some in the community think he shouldn't have the option to bond out. "When you shoot a police officer, a guy that's trying to protect everyone, you should stay in jail," said one resident.
