COLLIER COUNTY, FLa.- Heavy rains swept through Collier County Wednesday leaving a business owner in Marco Island looking for answers.
"Right now we have more than 10 inches of rain, people can't park and my business isn't doing very well," said Davide Valenti.
He owns Davide's Italian Café at the Island Plaza, located at the corner of Bald Eagle Drive and North Collier Boulevard. The area experienced heavy flooding. At nearby Veterans Park, Marco Island Police Tweeted out a picture of a van stuck in water.
The city has made improvements to the sewage and draining systems over the past several years.
"It’s a lot better than what it used to be," said resident Connie Lowry, who lives on Magnolia Court. She recalled a storm a few years ago when the city was unable to bail out of 5 inches of rain.
Valenti hopes city leaders will ease some of the red tape so owners of the plaza can make improvements. He says they want to invest $3 million to help the parking lot drain better.
“It’s a small island, and it’s not easy, it’s not easy to make things happen quickly.”
Other areas of Collier County also experienced flooding Wednesday including the Vineyards community East of I-75.
