ESTERO, Fla-- Abigail, a 3-year-old dog rescued from Miami-Dade County in November is making great strides during her recovery at Pets First Wellness Center in Estero.

Dr. Thomas Jackson started treating Abigail 26 days ago and said she's the worst case he's ever seen.

"She had multiple bites all through the top of her head, her ear was missing, the muscular holding the side of her face was chewed out," said Dr. Jackson.

Now after countless surgeries, skin graphing and building her an ear canal,

"We just found out last night she can hear," said Dr. Jackson.

Abigail has been able to reach milestones once thought impossible.

"She's created joy and happiness and hope for people here locally and you know among the world," said Frazier.

A GoFundMe was set up for Abigail with loyal fans also following her progress on a Facebook page.

"The biggest part is that it's bringing awareness to where she's come from," said Frazier.

Once used as a fight dog, Abigail is surprising doctors with the fight she's putting up to survive, healing in some places almost a week ahead of schedule.

"There's always a line for how much can we help versus how much is worth suffering, too much suffering but she was worth and she had a great attitude," said Dr. Jackson.

While Abigail has made remarkable progress she still has one or two more surgeries before looking for her forever home.
