Former employee charged with robbing donut shop

IMMOKALEE, Fla. -- A 21-year-old Immokalee man was arrested Saturday charged with robbing the Dunkin Donuts he used to work.

Deputies say James Taylor walked into the store on Lake Trafford Road early Saturday morning as the young clerk opened for the day.

"It looked like a sawed-off shot gun," the frightened employee told 911 dispatchers.

She told police Taylor covered his face during the incident, but she recognized him as a former co-worker.

"She said he pointed the gun at her and she had no choice but to open the register and give him the money," her manager told dispatchers on the 911 recording released to Fox-4.

Taylor left out the back of the restaurant and was caught across Main Street at a CVS pharmacy.

"All the employees are usually friendly, they know us by voice and name when we go to the drive thru, so it's just very shocking," said customer Camila Branstner.

Taylor remains in the Collier County jail, charged with grand theft and pointing a gun at a minor.
