CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Authorities are asking residents to avoid a section of Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte while a natural gas leak is investigated.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff''s Office, the leak was in the immediate area of the Walmart Superstore on Murdock Circle.
TYCO Gas Company was called to the scene shortly after noon to investigate the leak, which was stopped at 1:20 pm.
According to Charlotte County Fire, no evacuations took place and no injuries occurred.
As of 1:30 pm, crews were still at the scene to finish up operations.
The sheriff's office has closed some roads in the area, including Tamiami Trail at Cochran Boulevard, Veterans Boulevard, and Murdock Circle.
**UPDATE (1:40PM)** -- Westbound lanes of Veterans Boulevard are now open, and crews are working to open the eastbound lanes.
