(UPDATE 4:20pm) -- Teco Gas arrived on scene approximately 30 minutes ago and stopped the leak. the Northbound traffic on Kings highway is now open and southbound should follow shortly within the next 15 minutes.
TECO Gas Company is heading to a gas leak on Kings Highway in Port Charlotte that has shut down the road in both directions.
The leak happened just before 3 p.m. at the intersection of Kings Highway and Midway Blvd. Kings Highway is currently closed in both directions between Rampart and Suncoast. You are urged to avoid that area if possible.
Emergency crews are asking businesses nearby to keep people in place, but no evacuations have been ordered.
Once TECO arrives on scene, Charlotte County Emergency Officials will have a better idea on how long the road will remain closed.
