Hatchimal craze hits SWFL with a $5000 price tag

Posted

CAPE CORAL, Fla-- The Hatchimal craze has stores sold out of the popular item, but that isn't stopping consumers from going to great lengths to get their hands on one of these toys. The average price through a private seller right now is about $130, but one ad in Southwest Florida is asking for $5000.

"I've been trying to avoid it because of the whole craze thing," said one Target shopper.

Stores like Target currently have signs up in their windows stating they are sold out of Hatchimals.

"We came here one day and there's like 20 people and somebody came out and said we only have 6 Hatchimals," said Tammy Akalski.

While many are running out of luck in stores, others are taking to the web trying to find more success. Thousands of online ads show asking prices anywhere from $100 up to $5,000.

The Hatchimal website recently announced for those interested buyers who haven't had any luck, they are expecting a new batch to hatch early 2017.
