COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A Georgia man was rescued by helicopter Wednesday after getting lost on a trail in Collier Seminole State Park.

The man reportedly left his wife and three kids behind in their vehicle as he hiked about a mile and a half down Nature Trail #3 off Tamiami Trail east of Naples.  The man was participating in geocaching, an outdoor game utilizing GPS or other navigation techniques to locate hidden containers around the world.

After getting lost, the man phoned his family, who alerted authorities.

Deputies from the Collier County Sheriff's Office responded, with help from K-9, helicopter, and EMS units.

The man was instructed  over the phone to find a clearing, where he was located by the sheriff's helicopter around 8:30 PM.  The helicopter managed to land in the clearing to pick the man up and transport him to safety.

The man was treated by EMS at the scene and released.
