FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Hundreds of people attended the 8th annual SWFL Pride Festival in Fort Myers. The theme of this year's event was "equality needs you."

"Without this community things cannot happen for the gay community, as well as the straight community, it's an alliance," said pride fest attendee Dominique Sierra.

Dozens of attendees at this year's SWFL Pride Festival agreed with Sierra adding that "love is love and we are all equal."

Several organizations from the Fort Myers community had booths set up at the event. One of those booths was Visuality, a community center for LGBT youth.

"We are trying to show tomorrow's adults there are safe places that aren't bars, that aren't met up places, where you can hang out and have fun," said Visuality co-founder Carrie Keohane.

Others who attended the event said they were there to show support for the victims of the Orlando shooting back in June.

"It's everyone's responsibility to show the support and let everyone know that we live in a world where we still are loved and that's the key," said attendee Patrick Johnson.

This is the first year the event includes activities on Sunday following Saturday's festival.
