COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for information involving a car that fled the scene after striking a bicyclist last month.

It happened in North Naples on Friday, January 15th.  According to the sheriff's office, the 50-year-old victim was riding his bicycle northbound on Goodlette-Frank Road around 4:30 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound vehicle near the Vanderbilt Beach Road intersection.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop to assist and no emergency responders were called to the scene. Later that day friends drove the victim to the hospital for treatment.

Family members did not learn how the victim received his injuries until he awoke from surgery three days later.  It was then that the victim told deputies the vehicle that struck him was either a white or silver older model four-door passenger car driven by a Hispanic man.

The victim died of his injuries on January 29th.

Deputies are asking anyone with information to contact the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239-252-9300 or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477 (TIPS).
