LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- The Lee County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation at a Lehigh Acres home in the 700 block of Jenna Avenue South.

According to the Lee County Sheriff' Office, a medical assist call came in at 12:19pm Wednesday, reporting a one-year-old infant that was not able to wake up and not breathing.

First responders report "the infant had signs of rigor mortis and was deceased", according to an incident report.  Time of death is listed as 12:31pm.

Eva Liedecker says her heart sank when she saw her neighbor, a mother, collapse in front of her home.

"My daughter saw her [mother]  throw herself against the wall because she didn't want to go inside the house to see the body again," Liedecker said. "I don't know if it was her that called the police or what happened but she was screaming and crying."

A mother screaming and crying over what Liedecker says is the death of her neighbor's one year old child.

In a neighborhood where the sound of kids playing ball usually fills the streets, neighbors say the sounds of a grieving mother took its place.  "I saw all the neighbors standing outside, I saw the police, then I saw the woman just flinging herself up against the house just screaming 'no,no,no'," Liedecker said.

Cries of the mother neighbors say is grieving the death of her only child.  "Your heart just breaks when you hear of a child dying or getting hurt, and it's terrible."

Lee County Major Crime detectives are still investigating the cause of death.
