Legendary golfer helps reopen Naples course

Posted

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A $500 million makeover to a popular Naples golf course is complete, and golf legend Jack Nicklaus was on hand Wednesday afternoon as those upgrades to Bear's Paw were shown off to the public.

Nicklaus designed the course in 1979, but says it needed a major overhaul.  The improvements include bigger greens that drain better, more access for carts, and larger tees so there is less stress on the turf.

"The special part is walking away and having people say 'that was a good golf course. I really enjoyed it, it's a place I live.' That's what you try and do," said Nicklaus.

Nicklaus won 18 major championships before retiring.  He says he likes the younger generation of golfers such as Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth.
