CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 12-year-old boy is in serious condition after a truck hit him while he was riding a bike.
It happened in the South Gulf Cove community, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
They say Spencer Becton was riding eastbound on Appleton Boulevard near Redondo Street around 8pm Thursday night. As a pickup truck approached Spencer from behind, the boy crossed in front of the truck and the truck hit him.
Troopers say the area did not have street lights and the boy was not wearing a helmet or reflective gear.
Becton was transported to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg in serious condition.
None of the three occupants of the truck were injured.
Charges are pending further investigation.
