A 17-year-old boy's body was found early Sunday morning in the Twin Lakes Subdivision in Clewiston in an apparent homicide.
The Hendry County Sheriff's Deputy's Office says they responded to a call at 2:39 a.m. Sunday morning for a man lying on the ground. Deputies identified the man as Jeremy Daniel Penton. It's unclear what led to Penton's death, but they believe he was murdered.
People living in the Twin Lakes Subdivision said they were questioned by deputies and told about the body, then saw them searching the area by a water pump house.
Penton’s friends said he was shot.
Bill Durance has lived in the area for almost 50 years and said nothing like this has ever happened since he’s lived there, especially with someone so young.
Friends said Penton was a jokester. He loved to fish and be outdoors.
“It’s terrible,” Durance said. “I know his grand dad, and I feel sorry for the family.”
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
