FORT MYERS, Fla. — Dogs are mans' best friend, and for many they are a part of the family. However, someone brutally beat one little puppy that was left in the dumpster at The Brittany Apartment Complex in Fort Myers. Crime Stoppers told me someone saw the pup, and immediately called authorities.
“The dog in fact was deceased. They took the dog in for a necropsy, and that showed that she had been beaten badly”, said Trish Rouette, SWFL Crime Stoppers Program Coordinator.
Looking for the owner and other possible witnesses, Crime Stoppers says the puppy was 8 weeks old, so a possible recent visit to the vet might be their best lead.
“Maybe sometime in the last few weeks, the person that owned the puppy, would have brought it in to be checked out or something. So if this puppy looks familiar or anything resonates with a local veterinarian clinic, we want to hear from you”, said Rouette.
If you're like me, you're asking, who could beat a tiny puppy to death? I asked Victoria Frazier with the Love is Fur Ever Dog Rescue. She says because of the Coronavirus, she's noticed people can no longer financially care for their pets.
“Which coincides with, what do I do with my animal?, and things like this can happen” said Victoria Frazier.
Leading to a spike in animal abuse and neglect.
“Of course there is a spike, people are home they are frustrated, they are financially not stable. So anything like this, this abuse, this neglect, is obviously going to continue to happen”, said Frazier.
Right now this person could face felony charges along with jail time and Frazier says justice needs to be served
“If you’ve seen something say something. You’re going to help in some sort of way”, said Frazier.
