CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — During this year’s “Stuff the Bus” campaign event, shoppers visiting a Walmart on August 7th-12th can purchase and drop off requested school supplies at Salvation Army collection bins at the front of each store.

“Whether they are doing school virtually at home, or they are doing homeschool, or school in the classroom, these school supplies are essential for them, ” said Captin Claudia Roseno.

The organization is urging the community to donate school supplies such as pens, paper, binders, hand sanitizers and more

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, this campaign aims to lighten the load for Southwest Florida families.

“They are having to choose between paying for groceries, paying for an electric bill, school supplies, or having a nice backpack for their children this year, ” said Captin Roseno.

A backpack full of new supplies gives students the confidence to start the school year off right.

“There are kids out there whose parents don’t have jobs right now, they need this for them to know that they will have a good school year and not be excluded, ” said Isabela Roseno.

This initiative was started over 30 years ago, with the goal to give students a fresh start.

“We are expected to fill about 150 backpacks, ” said Captin Roseno.

Stuff the Bus collection bins are located at Walmart stores in Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, and Englewood.

Parents have until August 17th to register children in need of school supplies, items will be given away on August 21st.
