Bonita Springs after Irma

Community members are coming together after Irma caused devestating flooding throughout Bonita Springs.

Mike Bode, who's lived in Bonita Springs since 1968, and he's said he's never seen flooding this bad.

"There's a lot to be done now. Fortunately, we got friends and we'll get it done," Bode said.

He's spent the last few days driving his truck through the neighborhood, delivering items to friends and giving people the rides they need to get out.

"It's dangerous. Fortunately, I got a good F250," Bode said.

Mayor of Bonita Springs, Peter Simmons, said this part of Southwest Florida has a long way to go, but first responders are going street by street to address everyone's concerns.

Mayor Simmons said, "Mother nature wins. Mother nature will always win and we need to respond to the environment the best way we know how."

He said to call 911 in an emergency, but 211 if you have specific concerns. 

Four in your corner asked what to do if 211 is busy, and Mayor Simmons said the best way to reach out to them is through social media. He said give a specific address with specific concerns, and the city will address those problems head on.
