Bonita Springs residents clean up after major flooding

Residents in Bonita Springs off Imperial Parkway are beginning to clean up after several feet of water filled the neighborhood streets since the flooding started a week ago.

Alexander Marcado moved into his home a week ago Saturday, but says he had to leave with his girlfriend because the water was so deep, he couldn't drive through it.

He said, "Had to walk all the way up the block just to go to work, through the water. It was a headache."

In addition to unpacking, Marcado came back home Saturday to start cleaning up the mess this flooding left behind.

He says the past week has been stressful, especially not knowing what might've happened to their brand new home.

"It puts you down," he said.

Marcado and his girlfriend are frustrated and believe this major flooding could have been prevented with better drainage systems.

The American Red Cross, Salvation Army and local government officers have been in these neighborhoods giving out supplies and lending a helping hand to those in need.
