Burlgars target cars parked at Naples Beach over holiday weekend

Naples Police are investigating several reported car burglaries at a beach parking area. The crimes were reported near the beach access off of 16th Avenue South, a few blocks south of Naples Pier.

According to a report from the Naples Police Department, the owner of a Ford pickup truck told them he locked his truck at around 1:30 p.m. while he and his friends were at the beach. When they returned shortly before 4 p.m., they noticed that several items were missing from inside the vehicle.

"Don't leave purses, (or) any kind of valuables at all to give them the temptation," beach visitor Sherrie Taylor said Tuesday.

There were no signs of forced entry on the Ford pickup, but the truck had a keypad below the door handle, which can be used by someone who knows the code to access the vehicle without a key.

Police were able to get fingerprints from the truck, which have been sent to a crime scene lab for analysis.
