FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. - Fort Myers Beach is about to get really, really busy. Tens of thousands of Spring Breakers are expected to flock to Southwest Florida over the next several weeks.

Businesses are gearing up for the massive crowds. And so is law enforcement.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office says extra duty details are scheduled on Fort Myers Beach through April.

“We’re ready to host the biggest party in Southwest Florida,” said Melissa Schneider, marketing director at Lani Kai Island Resort. “We’ve been preparing since before Halloween”

Spring Break crowds are expected as early as this weekend on the island.

“We’ve been gearing up over the last couple months and bringing on some extra help and getting everybody trained and ready to go,” said Adam Clark, owner of the Dog House on Estero Blvd.

Clark says Spring Break sales make up the majority of business sales each year.
