CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral Bike Night, a night filled with rumbling sounds of motorcycles, laughs and more is experiencing a few changes this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The City of Cape Coral tells us, “The ity’s October and December Bike Night events have been canceled and the city does not plan to host any large public events through the remainder of the year due to the ongoing Coronavirus public health emergency. This does not impact events held on private property,” said Maureen Buice, Public Informations Officer for The City of Cape Coral.
The owners of Duval Street in Cape Coral, obtained a permit from the city to host the event. They tell us, they understand safety concerns, but they have measures in place to protect staff and everyone who wants to have some bike fun tomorrow night.
“You know we do clean tables and everything like that, we’ll have hand sanitizer stations, our servers do wear masks upon requests, also we will have masks available for guests if they don’t have one,” said Mike Diquinto, Public Affairs Director for Duval Street.
The folks at Duval Street, say they were disappointed when they heard the city was canceling the event, but now they hope the news of its return will lift the community's spirits.
“Just trying to help the local community, the local community has been great to us, helping us out, you know everyone has been effects by COVID. I know some may or may not be for this event, but we are holding it and we’re trying to give back to the community and we want everyone to come out and have a good time,” said Diquinto.
However, since this event is not sponsored by the city, we reached out to Cape Coral Police who are urging all attendees to please adhere to guidelines in place.
“If we do get a larger than expected or permitted turn out, again there is no on street parking, you can get a parking citation or be towed if you park, like you normally would during the real bike night. We are well aware of the permitted event as we are with all permitted events, and patrol is out there and we are ready to respond if there are any issues,” said Master Corporal Phillip Mullen, Public Information Officer for the Cape Coral Police Department.
