A Cape Coral man was arrested after a couple caught him breaking into their truck.
It happened on SW 13th Avenue in Cape Coral.
Ryan Funk said Monday night, he was bringing in groceries and his hands were full, and he forgot to lock his truck.
Tuesday at 3:30 AM, his dogs were barking, so his wife let them outside.
"She came out the front door walked down the sidewalk, saw the lights on inside the truck, and she goes 'What's Ryan doing in the truck?' And looked inside the truck and saw these feet dangling out. 'That's not my husbands feet?'" Funk told Fox 4.
She also heard the man rummaging through the car. Funk said she ran inside and woke him up.
"What I saw was the truck door open, the guy left a bike in the driveway, and he was nowhere to be found," he said.
She called Cape Coral Police, who they said showed up within minutes.
"They finger printed the outside of the truck right here, and then we found a couple large hand prints on the hood of the truck," Funk said.
Cape Coral Police searched the neighborhood and found Anthony Bastos, 24, at the intersection of SW 21st Terrace and SW 11th Court -- three streets away from where Funk and his family live. His arrest report said he was sweating profusely, wearing dark clothes, and carrying a backpack filled with coins, cash, cell phones, hats, and marijuana.
"You know what this guy got out of my truck? A sharpie," Funk said.
Bastos has been booked in the Lee County Jail five times since 2013 for multiple charges, including grand theft, burglary, driving with a suspended license, property damage, store theft, and probation violation.
"I think the system may be flawed a little bit. Why does he still get away with it?" Funk asked.
He said he's investing in more cameras and better security. His wife was so shaken up by what happened, he's even planning on getting a new truck.
"Just picture it, this guy's feet are dangling out. Why does she want to get in that side?" Funk said.
