CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral City council voted earlier tonight to update its existing noise ordinance.

This new update means big changes for a lot of people, especially businesses in the city's entertainment district.

Concerns about late-night noise in the Cape drew crowds from very different generations to Monday night's city council meeting.

The discussion comes as part of a public hearing to determine if the city's current noise ordinance should be updated.

The updated ordinance now bans businesses in the city's entertainment district from playing music outside between 11 PM and 7 AM unless it's associated with a special event that's been approved by the city.

It also sets specific noise levels that are allowed for all Cape Coral properties during the day and at night.

"We're trying to come up with a compromise because, as we've mentioned, we have a unique situation." Says Jennifer Nelson, Cape Coral City Council.

According to Cape Coral Police, since the rule is new, you'll likely get a warning on your first violation, but after that, you'll pay fines anywhere from $150- $500.
