A daycare center in Cape Coral is facing new allegations of child abuse after a complaint from a parent last month.
Sierra Bruner filed a report with the Cape Coral Police Department over concerns her nine month old daughter sustained an injury at Kiddie Island Academy accusing the daycare facility of potential abuse or neglect.
The police report states Bruner was asked to sign an incident report regarding her daughter receiving an injury at day care. Kiddie Island staff explaining the nine month old fell asleep on a book which lead to a laceration on her face, the incident didn’t mention an abrasion on her bottom lip.
Bruner asked to see the surveillance video which showed a staff member grabbing her daughter and flipping her on her face and then spanking the child three times. A blanket is also thrown on the child’s face and later the child was pulled by the arm in the next room.
This isn’t the first time kiddie island has faced allegations of abuse. Fox 4 spoke with the owner of Kiddie Island after accusations surfaced of child neglect back in March of 2016. The owner telling Fox4 cameras were going to be installed to prevent future allegations. In May of 2016 DCF cleared the day care of any wrong-doing following those allegations.
The State Attorney’s office is working closely with CCPD on this case from October 2019, but it has not been formally submitted for review. Staff from Kiddie Island refused to comment on the incident.
