CAPE CORAL — Tonight Cape Coral Police are looking for a man after he robbed the 7-Eleven on Santa Barbara and Gleason Tuesday night. Police say he entered the store demanding cash. It was a frightening ordeal for the worker. The employee detailed how the robber came from behind holding what the employee described to be a gun.
“He went up to the clerk, implied that he had a fire arm, he did not actually display a firearm, received some money and fled the area. Despite the fact that he didn’t display a firearm it still amounts to a robbery,” said Phil Mullen with the Cape Coral Police Department.
The robber even threatened to kill the employee. The Cape Coral Police Department says unfortunately, incidents like this are not uncommon.
“It happens from time to time it doesn’t happen often, and almost all the time it’s a case where they say they have a firearm and they don’t display one. It’s a rare thing and they are usually solved” said Mullen.
Mullen says the clerk made the right decision and followed company protocol.
“ We’re just glad that that clerk wasn’t harmed in any way, and gave the money over. Most companies are going to have policies that say just give the money up, we don’t want anybody getting hurt that’s the most important thing”, said Mullen
Adding, if you find yourself in that situation, do what you can to stay safe.
“Stay calm do everything you can to get out of that situation safely, the money is not important. If you can be a good eyewitness without putting yourself in harms way that’s great, get as much information as you can about the suspect, or about a vehicle but again without putting yourself in harms way”, said Mullen.
The victim says the suspect got away with about $100 cash. Police are working to gather more details about the suspect, but if you have any information regarding this incident you are urged to call Cape Coral P.D.
