UPDATE (6 PM) -- A suspicious death investigation has people in a North Cape Coral neighborhood on high alert tonight.
Cape Coral Police responded to a person's body found on the side of the road early Friday morning in the area of Durden Parkway and NE Tenth Court.
"Once we got on scene, we started investigating, we called out forensics," said Sergeant Patrick O'Grady with the Cape Coral Police Department.
For roughly five hours, the area remained blocked as forensic units investigated.
While officers have ruled the death as 'suspicious,' they say it's too early in the investigation to share why.
They would also not release the person's gender or approximate age.
"The area that the body was found butts up right next to the Yucca Pen. So we don't know if that has anything to do with it," said Sgt. O'Grady.
"To just drop it in someone's backyard, it makes me a little nervous about that person's thought process with this whole thing," said Samantha Skytich.
Syktich has lived in the neighborhood for three years and says she's never experienced anything like this before.
"In all honesty, I didn't see or hear anything, that's what was weird about it, it was silent," said Syktich.
Syktich says this area does get very dark since there are no street lights at the end of this street.
While she does feel safe, she now plans to take extra safety measures.
"I'll definitely be putting up cameras after this," said Syktich.
Officials are waiting for the autopsy report to release the cause of death.
