CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police are thanking a citizen for assisting in a water rescue by offering a new token of appreciation.
The Cape Coral Police Department have given Florian Mickuleit a 'Citizen Commendable Action Coin' for his role in an incident in a Cape Coral canal on June 4.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, that evening a man was seen swimming in a canal off SE 12th Terrace and acting irrationally. Officers say the man was out of range of the rescue rope and he started saying he could not swim to the officers as the current was too strong.
That's when Mickuleit arrived in the area delivering a rental boat and offered to pilot the boat to allow officers to rescue the man. Officers boarded the boat and Mr. Mickuleit piloted the boat to the center of the canal and with the aid of the rescue rope, Officers were able to bring the exhausted man on board.
The man was then taken to a local hospital.
Police say the Citizen Commendable Action Coin was presented to Mr. Mickuleit for his services in assisting Officers in rescuing a citizen in need. Mr. Mickuleit's actions allowed the male to be rescued far quicker than would have otherwise been possible and possibly prevented the male from drowning.
