The teachers became the students at Shoot Center in Cape Coral Monday night on the subject of guns. Several Lee County teachers stepping into the range after a crash course on gun safety.
"There's a lot of talking about gun violence, I'm not going to get into that but I do feel it's important to educate yourself," said a teacher who identified herself as Liza.
She had never fired or handled a gun until joining the class.
Instructor Aaron Forum started the class after a law was passed allowing teachers to be armed in the classroom, although Lee County already has deputies in most schools.
Forum is trying to reach as much of the population as possible, he most recently taught a self-defense class tailored to real estate agents.
"We heard a lot of the same concerns, it made sense to us, especially given the population of realtors in the area, to offer something for them as well, said Forum.
Forum says he's also offering a firearms training class to nursing professionals.
