FORT MYERS, Fla., - A popular gym in Fort Myers has been targeted again by car burglars.
Lee County deputies say thieves smashed open windows on locked cars during the day on Tuesday at the LA Fitness in Gulf Coast Town Center, getting away with more than a thousand dollars worth of stuff.
Victims say they weren’t expecting to leave the gym and find their windows busted, especially at 6 in the evening when the gym tends to be busy.
"I had a Michael Kors purse, my wallet, debit cards, credit cards, apple watch, pair of sunglasses,” said Maria Delorenzo, a victim.
A Michael Kors wallet and Coach purse among several items stolen out of another vehicle.
“Your nice car that you worked really hard for and it's just smashed - it was shock,” said Erika Price, who says thieves broke into her Lexus RX350 the same time.
LA Fitness employees tell 4 In Your Corner car burglaries have been a recurring trend in their parking lot over the past several months.
“To know that that happened and that it has been happening. It's a little uncomfortable,” Price said.
4 In Your Corner reached out to the management at Gulf Coast Town Center to find out if they have anything in the works to address the recent trend. We haven’t heard back.
