LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — It's supposed to be a place where animals and humans feel safe.
But early Wednesday morning, it was anything but that.
A car smashed into My Pet's Veton Bell Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.
Co-owner Dr. Ernest Blum says he found out about it with a phone call that woke him up.
He remembers getting nervous when he glanced at the caller ID on his phone.
"I look at it and it says emergency - something or other - and I was worried," says Dr. Blum.
"I have a buddy on a ventilator up north and I thought maybe it was bad news."
Instead, it turned out to be bad news for his practice.
The driver was unable to tell anyone what happened.
"I don't think he was conscious," says Dr. Blum.
"A bunch of guys picked him up and took him outside the building."
Dr. Blum says the car went about 3/4 of the way through the building.
"I had go shut the water off because it plowed through a sink and plumbing," says Dr. Blum.
"I don't know if I'll be able to function until that actually gets repaired."
